David Brockway addressed the Crossville City Council during public comment to urge action on a boarded, long-vacant property at 983 Prentiss Street that he described as a condemned meth lab and said has no apparent owner.
Brockway said foreclosure proceedings by Regions Mortgage were halted after the property was identified as a meth lab and that the deed currently lists a woman named Marie Bauer, whom he said he believed had been arrested in 2018. "The house at 983 Prentice Street is a condemned meth lab house with no owner," Brockway said, adding the property has sat idle since about Jan. 19, 2012.
The chair asked Brockway to provide contact information for follow-up and told him staff would review the situation. Chair said the city would put together a task force that includes county codes, the fire department and police to examine next steps. "If you will before you leave, the city clerk has your information," the chair said.
Staff did not provide a timeline for enforcement or remediation during the work session. The council did not take a formal vote; staff said they would review the property and follow up with Brockway.
Clarifying details supplied to the council during the session were limited: the council asked for the speaker's contact information and directed staff to investigate through existing enforcement channels. No formal enforcement action or schedule was announced at the meeting.
