Council to add DCI $5,000 request and several grants and contracts to the next Crossville agenda

Carolyn Joss of Downtown Crossville Inc. asked the city for $5,000 to help cover the cost of a Veterans Memorial Park arch and eagle; DCI has raised $47,100 so far and the immediate project cost for the arch and related features is $53,705. Staff said the $5,000 request can be covered from the hotel/motel special events line and the council directed staff to place the request on the agenda.
Staff also recommended council approve an annual $40,000 alcohol enforcement grant from the state to cover overtime for enforcement; the grant requires no city match. A tourism enhancement grant of $60,000 was also announced; the city would provide an estimated match of about $6,700. Parks and Recreation staff proposed a three‑year contract with Vermont Systems for scheduling and the contract was described as budgeted at $23,000 in year one and $13,000 in year two. Planning staff recommended approval of a sewer mainline extension on Iris Lane at Genesis; the item will be added to the agenda for formal action. Finally, a monthly lease arrangement for the Catoosa Utility Department building continues while a new facility is constructed; the rent increased by $150 and the lease remains month‑to‑month.
Council did not take final votes on these items at the work session; members asked for the items to be placed on the next meeting agenda for formal consideration.
