Commissioners approve $20,000 from unclaimed funds for 2026 Lubbock Arts Festival

Grigsby told the court the festival will be the event’s 48th annual iteration, expects about 10,000 attendees and reported an independently verified economic impact increase of 58% to $1.9 million. “We’re expecting 10,000 people,” Grigsby said. She emphasized that county support helps keep admission low (adults $5; children 12 and under free) and allows school-day programming for thousands of students.
Commissioners moved and seconded the donation motion and approved it unanimously. Grigsby indicated the festival provides economic benefits through visitor spending, hotel room-night increases and visitor outreach; she also noted the county has historically supported the festival with venue-taxing authorities permitting use of certain non-tax dollars (electrical rebate dollars) for arts promotion.
The county asked staff to circulate festival information to county employees; Grigsby said county employees and their families would be offered free admission as part of the partnership.
Next steps: County will transfer the $20,000 from unclaimed funds and coordinate promotion for county employees to attend the festival.
