Planning commission approves multiple annexations to allow city water and sewer connections

A city staff member told the Crossville Planning Commission that several property owners requested annexation into the city to obtain water or sewer service. Staff recommended proceeding with annexation in each case, and the commission voted to approve the requests.
For the tenant annexation (tax map 125 M Group A Parcel 601), staff said a sewer line lies across Lantana Road and estimated that sewer service would likely be available within about 12 to 18 months when the city’s planned project is completed. Staff warned the property owner would likely be responsible for costs related to Lantana Road improvements associated with connecting to the city sewer. “Staff recommends moving forward with the annexation process,” the staff member said.
On Woodlawn Road (tax map 87, partial 8), staff said a low-pressure sewer main is approximately 270 feet from the property and that a mainline extension would be required; per city ordinance, the property owner would be responsible for material costs and no roads would be included in the annexation. Staff said the city will send notice letters to property owners within 200 feet and may wait for responses before returning the item to the planning commission and city council.
Two Canary Drive parcels (tax map 112 L Group D, Parcels 19 and 21) were presented separately. Staff said water is already in the street for Parcel 19 and that a previously approved sewer-line extension will make sewer available after installation; Parcel 21 already has a house connected to city water and will gain sewer after the extension. The commission voted to approve each annexation after brief motions and seconding.
The approvals advance the properties toward formal annexation and the ability to connect to municipal utilities; project-specific infrastructure and cost responsibilities were described as the property owners’ obligations in accordance with city ordinances.
