The staff member (speaker 1) described the county’s current cameras as consumer-brand Eufy models purchased through retail channels and said the cameras generally store short, motion-triggered clips for about 30 days. “The cameras themselves were probably around a $100 a piece,” the staff member said, and described the app-based system that notifies staff when motion is detected.
The staff member said the system stores short clips unless someone manually pulls longer recordings after motion detection, and that there is not an ongoing subscription fee for the basic configuration the county purchased. The staff member added the county maintains a contract with AMC Construction for some maintenance and said there are tradeoffs compared with a commercial DVR or a service from Alpine Security that would avoid the battery/charging maintenance staff currently perform.
A committee member said the computer running the camera system presently has only 8 gigabytes of RAM and suggested it needs about 32 GB to reliably operate a full complement of cameras; the same committee member said the county would likely need about 32 cameras to cover courthouse, evidence room and upstairs areas. Staff said they would follow up with their technical contact (Keith Nichols) to address the computer/configuration choice and vendor responses.
