Commission authorizes application for Wisconsin DNR trails grant for Windwash Trail

The Winnebago County Parks Commission voted to authorize applying for and accepting a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recreational trails stewardship grant for the Windwash Trail project.
Adam, parks director, said staff submitted the application in time for the program deadline and that the DNR opportunity can provide up to $100,000. He explained the county has received similar DNR stewardship grants in the past, which can slightly reduce scoring (points) on new applications, and that the resolution before the commission is the standard county acknowledgment and authorization that many DNR grants require.
Speaker 3 moved to approve the authorization and acceptance; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded dissent. Adam said if the commission did not authorize it, staff would notify DNR; because the application was already submitted on the program timeline staff sought the commission’s formal approval.
The resolution authorizes county staff to accept the award if offered; no award decision was announced during the meeting.
