Lubbock County approves $10,000 sponsorship for Fourth on Broadway; notes Broadway construction will begin July 5

Katie Sandifer, executive director and producer for this year’s Fourth on Broadway, told the Lubbock County Commissioners Court on March 9 that the event — now hosted by Civic Lubbock in partnership with Stage Lehi Productions — will include a parade, evening concerts and a fireworks show and remains a free community event.

“We have an estimated attendance every year of 100,000 people,” Sandifer said as she described workshops, a classic car show and an arts row intended to spotlight local arts organizations.

The court voted to provide $10,000 from unclaimed funds to support the festival’s logistics, parking and signage. Judge Parrish moved for the funding and Commissioner Mike Dolby seconded; the motion carried unanimously on a voice vote.

Sandifer also told the court the parade route will start at Avenue M, travel down Broadway and end at MLK, a route that was used in 2024 and is planned again to bring the event closer to Broadway’s revitalization. Judge Parrish noted construction on Broadway is scheduled to begin July 5 and encouraged residents to attend: “please come and enjoy the parade this year.”

The county’s sponsorship last year helped cover logistics and parking improvements; Sandifer said the county’s support will again be used for event infrastructure. Sandifer said a nationally known act will headline one of the evening concerts and that the act would be announced the following day.

The approval allows event organizers to proceed with county-supported logistics and signage for the two‑day festival, scheduled for the Fourth of July period; no further county appropriation was reported at the meeting.

The court’s next steps are administrative: organizers will continue planning under the announced parade route and coordinate with county and city traffic staff as needed.
