County approves interlocal with UMC for medical-examiner services and terminates lease with Texas Tech

Lubbock County Commissioners on Jan. 12 approved an interlocal cooperative agreement with the Lubbock County Hospital District doing business as University Medical Center to provide medical-examiner services and requested authorization for related assistance. The action replaces a prior interlocal that the transcript records as abolished as of Jan. 1, 2026.
Bamby Trevino, identified in the transcript as representing the medical-examiner office, told the court the new agreement will assist UMC with examinations and overflow assistance as needed. Trevino and county staff said they expect to move operations into the county’s new facility in mid‑February; staff and the court noted Feb. 16 as a relevant date.
Separately, the court authorized the county judge to sign a 30‑day termination letter to end the lease agreement with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center for the county’s medical-examiner building. County staff described the termination as a 30‑day notice that will terminate the lease on Feb. 16.
Both actions were carried by voice vote. County staff said the new interlocal will take over for the former agreement and that the transition is timed with the move into the new medical-examiner facility.
