Township announces FIFA World Cup outreach, downtown street fair and business roundtable
Summary
Committee members said the township is supporting local businesses for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a new web page, a Welcome World Rebate Program and a downtown cultural/street fair planned for June 13; officials described a recent business roundtable and ongoing outreach to the historic downtown district.
Committeewoman Jen Assi and Deputy Mayor Todd Tompkins briefed the committee on recent economic‑development outreach, including a town hall door‑to‑door outreach to historic‑district businesses and a first business roundtable.
Assi said the township launched a new FIFA World Cup information tab on the municipal website to centralize guidance for residents and businesses and noted a planned historic downtown street fair and cultural event on June 13 to coincide with World Cup activity. "One of the programs that we're include encouraging all of our businesses to participate in is a host committee sponsored program called the Welcome World Rebate Program," Assi said.
Deputy Mayor Tompkins said the roundtable collected input on business needs across seven identified economic zones and said the goal is to reduce friction for small businesses and make it easier for new businesses to land in Basking Ridge. Officials said they will publish further details on participation and financial support on the township website as plans develop.
The committee framed the work as part of a broader economic‑development effort to support local businesses and leverage county and partner resources during the 2026 World Cup period.
