Atoka board approves budget amendments, project resolutions and appointments

The Atoka Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a set of ordinances, resolutions and appointments at its April 14 meeting, including amendments to the town—s fiscal-year 2025—1 budget, grant-funded water and sewer allocations, and a developer bond release.
The board completed second reading and adoption of an ordinance amending approved expenditures for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026 (ordinance number 25-05-02). Mayor Barry Aiken and staff said an additional $33,007.50 in a rescue-squad grant for the fire department was confirmed since the first reading; Town Administrator reported that amount will be 100% reimbursed. The board approved the ordinance by roll-call vote; each alderman recorded a "Yes."
The board also approved a resolution to add scope and engineering services to the Main Street lift station and related lift-station work (staff described the overall project cost at about $8,000,000 and said engineering fees are covered by grant funds and contingency). That resolution passed on a voice vote. Town staff explained the change will allow the town to provide an in-house pump-truck emptying station and respond more quickly to emergencies without hauling equipment out of town.
On first consideration the board accepted amendments to the water budget ($75,000 to cover IPG grant-eligible expenditures) and a sewer budget amendment ($1,500,000 to cover the Main Street lift-station spending). Staff said both items will be reimbursable through grant invoicing; those ordinances passed their first reading by roll-call.
The board approved a resolution to release a $175,000 developer bond related to Shepherds Ridge—s lift-station installation (resolution 24-12-05). Town staff noted SSR engineering deemed the project substantially complete but said the release does not constitute acceptance or dedication of the infrastructure until punch-list items are finished and the subdivision is completed.
Other formal actions: the consent agenda (items a—1h) was approved by motion; the board appointed realtor Christina Genesee Johnson to the Atoka Industrial Development Board (nonpaid position); and the board adjourned after routine miscellaneous announcements.
Votes recorded (as shown in meeting roll calls): Alderman Lacy, Alderman Dietschy, Alderman Harper, Alderman Giannini, Alderman Schaffer and Alderman Poole voted "Yes" on roll-call items; all recorded roll-call votes were unanimous. The consent agenda was moved by Alderman Poole and seconded by Alderman Lightsey.
The meeting closed with mayoral remarks thanking staff and sponsors for the recent Barbecue Fest and reminders about a community weather-awareness seminar on April 30 and the town—s new notification app.
