Kaufman County approves interlocal to house a small number of Freestone County inmates

Kaufman County's sheriff asked the commissioners to approve an interlocal agreement to house a small number of inmates for Freestone County while that county's jail manages overflow. The sheriff said the other jail is "in a bind" and requested the county's assistance.
"We're taking anywhere from 10 to 12 just to help him out," the sheriff said, explaining the fee structure matches the standard rate used for other outside housing arrangements. The sheriff said the agreement had already gone through the sending jurisdiction's court.
A commissioner moved to approve the interlocal agreement; the motion was seconded and carried in open court.
The agreement is intended to be a temporary capacity-sharing measure; the court recorded the motion and vote in the minutes and thanked the sheriff for coordinating the arrangement.
