Commission reviews Sunnyview Expo Center sign mockup and requests design tweaks

Parks Director Adam presented a draft sign rendition for the Sunnyview Expo Center and asked the commission for feedback on design elements and next steps.
Adam said Jewel Media prepared the draft and that Lamar, the sign fabricator, would finalize dimensions and electrical schematics once a contract is in place. He asked that the gray background be narrowed so the Sunnyview Expo Center panel can be larger, and requested that the gold/orange border common to Lamar signs be changed to blue or white to better match the sites color scheme. Adam said staff and the vendor are also exploring top or back lighting rather than full internal LED backlighting for the monument sign.
A commissioner asked about setbacks; Adam confirmed the required setback is 100 feet and the new sign will be sited near the current sign. Adam said the old sign will be removed as part of the work, that the new sign will have separate electrical service and a meter (paid by the sign owner), and that the earliest construction window under discussion is late spring to early summer, with tentative hopes for March or April to start preliminary work.
Commissioners asked whether the sign would display occasional advertising or nameplates and whether Lamar would place a small builders label; Adam said that remains to be determined but that advertising is a likely revenue model for the vendor.
Next steps: staff will continue design coordination with Jewel Media and Lamar, confirm final dimensions and electrical needs once a contractor is on board, and return with final renderings.
