Erwin BMA approves homecoming, Apple Festival event requests; debris-removal resolution postponed

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Erwin, Tenn., voted Sept. 22 to approve multiple special-event requests, including Unicoi County High Schools homecoming parade scheduled for Oct. 10, Unicoi County Public Librarys request for Apple Festival parking in 2025, Apple Festival dates proposed by the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce for Oct. 2and 3, 2026, and a Flood Remembrance event proposed by First Baptist Church for Sept. 27, 2025.

Motions to approve each request were made and seconded by board members during the meeting and recorded as passing with all ayes from members present. Alderman Michael Baker moved the motion for the high-school parade and for the library parking request; Alderwoman Angie Vaughn moved the Chamber of Commerces Apple Festival date request and the motion for the First Baptist Church event was also approved. The minutes record that votes were "all ayes" among those in attendance (Alderwoman Angie Vaughn, Alderman Michael Baker, Alderman Gary Chandler and Mayor Glenn White). Absent members were Cathy Huskins and James "Mickey" Hatcher.

Separately, Recorder Tim Bailey asked that Resolution No. 1320-25, a proposal to remove debris from private property, be removed from the agenda because FEMA approval had not been obtained. Alderman Michael Baker moved to remove the resolution from consideration and Alderman Gary Chandler seconded; the Board recorded AYE votes from Vaughn, Baker, Chandler and Mayor White and the resolution was postponed/removed from consideration pending FEMA approval.

Mayor Glenn White announced the next regular meeting for Oct. 13, 2025 at 5:30 p.m., and the Board adjourned.
