Erwin board names vice mayor, OKs CDBG sidewalks, culvert repair and first reading on poultry rule

Mayor Glenn White nominated Alderman James "Mickey" Hatcher to serve as Vice Mayor for 2025; the board confirmed the nomination with Mayor Glenn White, Alderman Michael Baker and Alderwoman Cathy Huskins voting in favor and Hatcher abstaining. The motion to confirm was offered during the meeting's early business.
The board approved Resolution No. 1317-25, a resolution related to Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) sidewalks. Jonathan Shipley, of Thompson & Litton Engineering, advised the board on bids for the first phase of repairs to the McInturff Branch culvert, which drains under the old Parsley Insurance building on Main Avenue. The initial phase is described as a 30‑day contract to open the culvert, determine the full extent of damage and develop final repair plans. The engineering recommendation was to accept the low bid from Taft and Frye, and the board voted to approve the bid.
The board also granted Teresa Simerly, clerk and master for Unicoi County Chancery Court, permission to bid the minimum amount on listed properties within the Town of Erwin; that motion likewise passed on a roll-call vote with the four members present voting aye and two members absent.
On the ordinances docket, the board approved on first reading an update described in the minutes as an update to the Tennessee Code Annotated, § 10, concerning poultry inside town limits; the minutes do not include the ordinance text or specific changes beyond recording that the first reading was approved.
Mayor White announced the next regular meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen would be Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned.
