Director reports pump failure, new agricultural waste appointments, oil recycling and April electronics event

The director (S1) said staff were "purging and water sampling at the landfill" and that they "ran into a small snafu where one of our pumps on a 90 foot deep, 96 foot deep, well stopped working," which required additional bailing and a trip to Flint Farm to address equipment needs. Staff said sampling will occur the following day.
On waste collection programs, the director reported the household hazardous waste program began in March and introduced an agricultural option this year that allows farmers to make appointments for drop-off rather than rely on a single-day event; staff said the county hopes appointments will increase farmer participation.
The director also announced the county has started cooking-oil recycling: collected oil will go for biofuel and the county will sell it to Sanamax. An electronics recycling event is scheduled for April 18; staff noted there will be no weekday slots this year and non-municipal participants must come on Saturday.
Committee members asked about commercial-scale compost operations in the county; staff said some commercial operations exist (White Feathers, the Blesky brothers, and Busy Beads near Wausau) but that no curbside compost program is yet planned. Members praised county staff for their work; the meeting closed with the committee scheduling the next meeting for April 28 at 4:30 p.m. and adjourning at 4:57 p.m.
