Whitney Patterson presented Allegany County’s 2026 transportation priority letter to the state, asking commissioners to approve the list for submittal into MDOT’s six‑year consolidated transportation program.
Patterson said the new MDOT online submittal platform — the MDOT 1 Stop — requires more specific prioritization and stakeholder meetings. "This is Allegany County's annual submittal to the MDOT 6 year consolidated transportation program," she said, outlining projects grouped by system preservation, capacity expansion, feasibility studies, safety, bike/pedestrian projects and smaller interventions.
She listed the county’s overall top five priorities as: 1) the Route 40/Route 36 pedestrian safety project; 2) Great Allegheny Passage slope stabilization, drainage and surface improvements; 3) Allegheny County transit operating and capital funding; 4) Washington Street bridge rehabilitation; and 5) the Frostburg Depot Street and tunnel feasibility study. Patterson also noted additions requested during the April 9 work session, including the Georges Creek bike and pedestrian trail feasibility study.
Commissioners moved to place the item on the action agenda so the county can formally submit its priorities to MDOT. If approved on the action agenda, the projects will feed into MDOT’s capital budgeting process and the statewide prioritization meeting that includes local stakeholders.
