EMS reports two new ambulances, regional interest in Portage County model and early AI dispatch pilot

Speaker 4 reported the annual safety fair will be held at Mark Motors on May 16 and that the EMS representative is completing a rural health EMS operations and management leadership training course in mid-April. The representative confirmed that two new ambulances are now in service.
Speaker 2 told the committee that Dodge County and other counties have requested visits to study Portage County’s EMS operations, saying other jurisdictions are looking for staffing and service models that may better retain EMTs and sustain operations.
Speaker 2 also reported that the county began implementing an AI software pilot for dispatchers earlier in the week and expects to ramp the system to full use in the coming weeks; staff said the pilot is intended to offload non-emergent calls and reduce stress on dispatchers handling emergent calls.
Committee members asked brief follow-up questions about fleet distribution and whether the AI deployment had resolved earlier communications issues; staff said training and follow-up are ongoing.
Other items noted in the administrative update included a March 11 job fair participation, an April drug take-back week (week of 04/20) and recognition that Officer Brad Mathwich will receive WPPA awards on April 25.
