Summary
BCTV listed community events for the weekend: USCB holds two commencement ceremonies in Bluffton; the Beaufort Water Festival is hosting 5K/10K runs; Island Rec Center’s free family fun day and Pedal Hilton Head Island return—registration details and links were provided.
BCTV’s Kyla Williams outlined several community events and county items viewers should know for the weekend.
University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is holding two spring commencement ceremonies today at 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the USCB Gymnasium, 31 South Campus Drive, Bluffton; Williams said both ceremonies will be carried in full on BCTV and simulcast on the county’s YouTube channel (@beaufortcountytv).
The Beaufort Water Festival will host 5K and 10K runs Saturday, starting at 8:00 a.m. at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. Registration is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K; walk-up registration is available between 7:00 and 7:40 a.m., with a limited number of shirts available on a first-come, first-served basis. Williams directed listeners to bftwaterfestival.com for the festival schedule and details.
The Island Rec Center will hold a free Family Fun Day Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. at 20 Wilbur Road, Hilton Head Island, with bounce houses, snow cones, popcorn, a jumbo TV, a rock-climbing wall and special programs; the event is sponsored by May River Mattress Company, Williams said.
Pedal Hilton Head Island returns Sunday, May 3, with route options including 62-, 40-, 30-, 20-, 10- and 2-mile rides. Registration closes Saturday; ticket packages include a T-shirt and a post-ride lunch. Williams said the ride supports the Boys & Girls Club and helps fund children’s programming.
Williams also summarized recent Earth Day community activities. In an on-site segment, Victoria Hoffman, the county’s program manager for solid waste and recycling, said the event combined educational booths that teach residents about environmental programs with partner groups conducting litter pickup along roadways. “We can have the partners who are here today that are hosting an educational booth that allows residents to learn more about their environment and the things that they do. And then we also have partners who are picking up litter along our roadways,” Hoffman said on-air.
BCTV noted full Earth Day coverage and the senior scholar celebration for the Beaufort County School District’s Class of 2026 are available on YouTube; the broadcast encouraged viewers to like and subscribe for full coverage and to check the county site for press releases and additional details.
The segment did not provide participation counts, fundraising totals, or registration cut-off times beyond the general deadlines read on-air.
