Erwin board approves bid for South Industrial temporary road construction

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the Town of Erwin on Nov. 21 approved a contractor bid for temporary construction work on South Industrial Road after staff presented the bids and recommended an award.
Valerie Bradley reviewed bids received for the project and Jonathan Shipley provided details of the approved bid and scope. Alderman Michael Baker moved to approve the recommendation; Alderwoman Cathy Huskins seconded. During the motion, Baker asked to go on the record that he is of no relation to the company awarded the contract. The roll call vote recorded ayes from Angie Vaughn, Michael Baker, Gary Chandler, Cathy Huskins and Mayor B. Glenn White; James “Mickey” Hatcher was absent.
Shipley also provided an update on repairs to McInturff Branch, stating the project remains on track. The board did not amend the project timeline or funding at the meeting.
The decision authorizes the town to proceed with contracting for the temporary road work; staff or the contractor will provide scheduling and implementation details to be shared with the board as the project proceeds. The board adjourned after completing this and other agenda items.
