Summary
The Board of Public Works and Safety approved renewal of a recruitment agreement with Make My Move. City staff said the program has moved 92 households (about 225 people) and that the city will contribute about $175,000, matched 1:1 by IDC; mover incentives are $5,000 per household.
The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on April 29 approved a renewal of the city’s agreement with Make My Move, a relocation marketplace the board said has helped bring new households to Muncie.
Ryan Pike, representing Make My Move, said the partnership has moved 92 households to date. "We've moved 92 households," Pike said, describing the program as a way for communities to actively recruit people seeking new places to live. Amber, a city representative, told the board that the program’s participants represent about 225 individuals overall and that the city’s financial commitment is "just under $175,000." She said the program’s funding structure includes a 1-to-1 match from IDC and that mover incentives are $5,000 per household, split with IDC paying $2,500 and the city $2,500.
Amber said the city’s interlocal agreement with the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission remains in effect and applies anywhere with a Muncie address, whether inside municipal limits or not. She said the majority of participants in the program rent within city limits, while those moving outside city limits have tended to purchase homes.
On a motion and voice vote the board approved the agreement. The city will fund its portion from the EDIT account, Amber said.
The approval authorizes staff to execute the renewal of the Make My Move agreement; no further conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes.
