The Havre de Grace Planning Commission on April 16 unanimously approved a second one-year extension for the site-plan approval of a proposed Wawa convenience store and fuel station at 1001 Pulaski Highway.
Daniel Haney of Boller Engineering told the commission the project originally received planning approval in 2024 and requested a first extension in May 2025. He said the primary reason for additional delay is coordination with the Maryland State Highway Administration, including proposed lane-direction changes and intersection work near US 40 and Otsego. "We are hopefully in our final review with State Highway," Haney said, adding that stormwater and erosion-control plans have been approved and that bonds and agreements are being finalized by the applicant.
Commissioners closed the public record after the applicant’s presentation. No members of the public spoke in opposition during the site-plan hearing. Commissioners then voted by roll call to approve the second extension; the roll-call record shows all members voted to approve. Planning staff and the applicant clarified that the SHA approval is a condition of the demolition and building permits, and the applicant said demolition (including removal of on-site tanks and remediation) would be the first construction step once permits are issued.
The commission recorded the approval and wished the applicant success in moving the project forward; staff will monitor SHA review and application of municipal permit conditions.
