At the April 13 community forum, Libby Adams testified that her apartment remains contaminated by fungal growth despite a prior city inspection that found the unit clear. Adams said laboratory analysis found elevated airborne fungal spores, including potentially toxigenic species, and she asked the council and city staff to re‑investigate the HVAC, remediation procedures and whether cross‑contamination occurred during previous remediation.
Adams said she and her family were being asked to pay $12,000 to retrieve belongings held by a contractor and expressed frustration with the timeline and the city’s prior clearance decision. Councilors asked staff to follow up and ensure someone could contact her after the meeting to clarify next procedural steps.
Quote: "At present, there are no government regulations in place to regulate the removal of mold... we are dealing with a fungus that is invisible to the naked eye," Adams said.
