Mobile health unit reports increased contacts and explores telehealth to ease staffing gaps

Lynn Valentine, nursing services manager, updated the board on the county's mobile health unit, comparing July 2025'March 2026 activity with the prior fiscal year and describing steps to gather demographic information.
Valentine said the mobile unit provided 544 services through March, compared with 466 for fiscal year 2025, and recorded 487 contacts to date versus 334 last year. The unit's most common services remain blood-pressure checks, hemoglobin A1C screening and cholesterol checks. Valentine said the department added two demographic questions to patient surveys in November and had received 66 completed surveys showing most respondents are age 56 and older.
Valentine acknowledged staffing challenges after one mobile unit staff member left the county and said the department is recruiting; she also said arrangements exist to provide telehealth access for patients at the mobile unit so a remote provider could serve patients who come to the van. The board asked about the mobile unit budget; staff said the FY26 budget was $115,000 and that this line includes fuel, maintenance, personnel, ERE and supplies, while the vehicle purchase itself was ARPA-funded and not part of the operating total.
No formal action was taken. Valentine said she would provide the mobile unit's budget documentation upon request.
