Commission establishes additional no‑parking zones around Area 15 development

Summary
The commission voted to add roughly 2,500 feet of no‑parking zones on roadways around the Area 15 site—bringing the total to about 4,200 feet—after the developer's engineer confirmed the changes affect property owned by the Area 15 development.
The Las Vegas Traffic and Parking Commission on April 30 approved expanding no‑parking zones around the Area 15 development to address long‑term parking that can obstruct sight lines and emergency access.
Ravi Sierra, city traffic engineer, said the proposal would add approximately 2,500 feet of no‑parking zones in the Area 15 corridor, bringing the total to about 4,200 feet. Staff argued that unregulated parking narrows travel lanes, obstructs sight distance and can impede emergency response.
Thomas Ackerman, a civil engineer with Kimley Horn speaking for Area 15/Fisher Brothers, told commissioners the striping changes fall on properties owned by the Area 15 development and do not impact other developers' frontages. "None of the proposed stripings are impacting other developers who are not Area 15 or directly on their frontage," Ackerman said.
Commissioner Emmanuel moved to approve the item and the motion passed; the transcript records 27 'Aye' responses during the vote sequence. Commissioners discussed concerns about impacts to small businesses on Mead Avenue, but staff said adjacent land users and Area 15 representatives are supportive.
Staff said the formal restrictions will allow consistent enforcement including citation and towing; the meeting record did not include an implementation schedule or a start date for enforcement.
