Board spotlights students, MSTV program and local music achievements

The Manatee County School Board opened its April 28 meeting with a series of student recognitions and program spotlights.
Board members and district staff recognized more than 20 students named to Florida All-State music ensembles and honored band directors for statewide and national awards. Ricardo Robinson Chenal and presenters said 21 students from the district earned All-State slots out of thousands who auditioned statewide.
The board also highlighted Manatee's student-led television production program (MSTV). Carl Shelton and student leaders described how MSTV brings students from several high schools together to run live broadcasts and gain production skills. Senior student Partha Pathi said the program helped him take leadership roles and transfer technical skills back to his school. MSTV staff played a short "Game of the Week" video to illustrate student work.
Other spotlights included winners from Manatee History Day and a state champion in Olympic lifting, Zoe Morelli, whose coach Remy Hebert described her record-setting performance. Trustees praised staff and students and invited parents and teachers forward for photographs.
What happens next: The board will continue to showcase student programs and asked staff to coordinate opportunities for the public and board members to view student productions and projects.
