The Proctor Public School District board voted to amend the 2025–26 calendar, making April 6 a student contact day to make up for weather-related closures and comply with the state's 165-instructional-day requirement. The motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Superintendent Kim Roe told the board the district currently has four districtwide snow days and a separate secondary-site water-emergency day that left the district short of the statutory 165 days at some sites. Roe said the district asked the Minnesota Department of Education for flexibility and was denied, prompting the recommendation to convert a scheduled staff learning day to a student contact day. "If it's approved tonight, I will communicate that tonight and tomorrow to not only our school community but parents and students so that they can plan ahead," Roe said.
Board members asked about the timing of the new student day relative to Easter break and whether students who had planned travel would be excused. Roe said building principals would be flexible and that administration had coordinated with unions on compensation arrangements for paras, custodians and other hourly staff affected by the change.
The board adopted the calendar amendment on a motion by a board member with a second; the chair called the voice vote and declared the motion carried. The district will notify families and staff of the change and publish details about attendance and excused absences at the building level.
