Montgomery County Commission: minutes, payroll, appropriations and youth facility budget change approved

The Montgomery County Commission at its Sept. 2 formal session approved a package of routine business items, including minutes, accounts payable and payroll registers, several appropriations, a youth facility budget change request and a travel/training request for the Board of Registrars.
Vice Chairman Moore‑Zeigler moved and Commissioner Castanza seconded approval of the minutes from the Aug. 18, 2025 meeting; the motion carried unanimously among commissioners present. The commission then approved accounts payable check runs listed in the packet (checks numbered 333735–333936 totaling $1,508,975.11 for the Aug. 15 register and 333937–333982 totaling $2,269,294.83 for the Aug. 22 register) and payroll totals reflected in the packet (payroll total $2,495,495.69 including direct deposits and federal deposits). Motions to approve these items were carried unanimously.
The commission approved Budget Change Request Number 1 for the Montgomery County Youth Facility/Detention (BC 2025‑1), described in the packet as a realignment to cover dumpster services, contract services and building repair and maintenance line items. The packet shows revised budget line-item movements and a net re‑alignment of funding for the youth facility.
The commission also approved miscellaneous appropriations to agencies and education as listed in the packet; the education appropriations table shows total Appropriations of $111,050 on the packet page and multiple line items allocating small grants or principal discretionary funds to local schools. During public comment, Greg Johnson informed the commission that he intends to file a lawsuit with the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Authority; no action on that comment was recorded. Deputy Administrator Walker reported on activities surrounding the Red Tails Classic game held in Montgomery over the prior weekend.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:32 a.m. on a motion by Commissioner Sankey, seconded by Commissioner Castanza; that motion carried unanimously among commissioners present.
