Kaufman County commissioners approve minutes, right‑of‑way closure, deputy appointments, replat, purchases and travel

Kaufman County Commissioners Court on April 7 approved a package of routine items, including acceptance of the March 2026 meeting minutes and a request to abandon and close a portion of road right‑of‑way near County Road 237B and FM 1392 so applicants may proceed with a plat.
The court approved the deputation and subsequent assignment of Lynn Poston to a patrol contract position for Precinct 2 and the deputation and assignment of Devin Kirkpatrick — a recent Cedar Valley Academy graduate — to another vacant patrol contract position. Constable Johnson presented both personnel items.
Development services presented a replat of Lot 6789 of Fort Place on County Road 133 in Precinct 1 that consolidates four lots into two (approximately 17 and 5 acres); staff said approvals were obtained and the court approved the replat.
The court approved travel for the election administrator and an assistant to attend the International Association of Government Officials annual conference in Reston, Virginia, and also approved travel connected with the Election Center’s professional education and a CIRA graduation program in Kansas City, Missouri. The election administrator said these trips were budgeted in FY26 and partially reimbursed.
Other approvals included a lease‑purchase request for a 2025 Caterpillar motor grader for Road & Bridge Precinct 3 (source-for-contract 011723), routine line‑item transfers and budget amendments presented by the auditor, and the county’s accounts‑payable and payroll claims.
The court deferred action on a proposed contract with New Edge to host the county’s GIS in the cloud pending purchasing sign‑off; Monique said legal approval is in place but purchasing had questions and she requested the item be pushed to next week.
All motions reported in the meeting were moved, seconded and carried; the court adjourned after the approvals.
