Providence Board of Contract and Supply opens bids, approves items 1–16

The Providence Board of Contract and Supply opened procurement bids and approved a set of routine contract items during its Jan. 12, 2026 meeting.

The meeting began with Chair (speaker S1) calling the meeting to order and asking the clerk to call the roll. The board recorded nine members present and three absent. Chair S1 asked that the record reflect that Mitchell Tweezy, deputy city solicitor, was present.

The board opened bids for multiple projects. Notable bids read into the record included an apparent rebid for City Council office work in Ward 9 with Zayco Construction listed at $138,338; a spring 2026 street-tree planting project with bids including Greenview Tree Service at $49,950 and a bid listed as $60,813 for another firm; an owners project manager selection for a public/private school project (phase 4) with proposed and calculated fee figures read into the record; and a community engagement/consulting solicitation for the Office of Sustainability with bids in the mid-$30,000 range (examples read were roughly $34,980–$35,000). The chair announced the opening of bids was complete and the board voted to refer the opened bids to the appropriate office for review.

The body then considered motions in section A. Director Joseph DePina moved, and Director Kyle Delgado seconded, a motion to approve items 1 through 16 in section A. On the roll call the clerk recorded eight ayes, one nay and three absences; the motion carried and the matters were approved. The transcript records the solitary negative vote as cast by Shomari Husband; the clerk announced 8 ayes, 1 nay, 3 absent.

The board also approved the advertisements in section C and agreed to re-advertise item 4 from section B. The minutes of the Dec. 29 meeting were presented and approved by the board. Chair S1 then moved to adjourn and the meeting ended.

Why this matters: the Board of Contract and Supply is the city panel that receives and opens bids and forwards procurement recommendations; the approvals taken at this meeting advance several city contracting and vendor-selection processes for public works, school facilities work and sustainability outreach. Several specific bid amounts and consultant fee figures were read into the record and have been referred for further administrative review.
