Dodge County Board approves claims, authorizes probation office to use county server and tables salary policy change

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on July 23 approved wage and financial claims, transferred $16,361.06 to the First Responders Communication Fund, authorized the District 6 Probation Office to use the county server under a separate vendor agreement, and tabled a proposed change to salary policy until Aug. 6.
The Dodge County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved wage and hour claims totaling $303,188.10 and financial claims totaling $553,766.23 at its July 23 meeting, and approved a $16,361.06 transfer from the General Fund to the First Responders Communication Fund to correct a misposted payment.
Why it matters: Those routine approvals maintain county payroll and vendor payments and correct fund accounting ahead of the next budget cycle.
Supervisor Bendig told the board the Personnel and Finance committees have been developing a proposed Employee Handbook change that would "eliminate step increases and implement a cost of living increase each year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Midwest Region, for the month of June." County Attorney Hopkins asked that elected officials be allowed to review the policy language before final adoption; the board unanimously tabled the discussion until its August 6 meeting.
On intergovernmental IT use, the board unanimously authorized the District 6 Probation Office to use the Dodge County server "instead of upgrading their outdated server," with Supervisor Bendig saying "the probation office will have a separate agreement with Applied Connective Technologies for the installation of the server, necessary licenses and any monthly fees." Bendig added that adding the probation office would not affect the server's life or the county's cybersecurity capabilities.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert updated the board on road work, saying crews are replacing culverts, conducting grading and ditch cleanouts after heavy rains, and continuing FEMA-funded work on County Road 10 near North Bend. Noting rusted-through culverts on Herman Scribner Road, Huppert said a lining contractor estimated "$18,900/culvert; if the culverts are lined instead of replaced, the old culverts would not need to be dug out and the road would not have to be closed." He also reported the state completed overlay work on old Highway 275 at Scribner and that right-of-way for a box culvert project on Luther Road has been acquired.
The board approved the agenda, received multiple reports and notices, and approved the minutes of its July 9, 2025 meeting. The supervisors adjourned until their next regular session on Aug. 6, 2025.
