Select Board approves cemetery turnaround contract for Hampden cemetery

The Town of Hampden Select Board voted on April 27 to award a construction contract for a cemetery turnaround project to Earthmoving Solutions following a recommendation from two members of the Cemetery Commission.
Cemetery commission members reported they solicited bids, contacted bidder references and found the recommended firm to be the lowest and among the most qualified. The board chair then entertained a motion to award the contract to Earthmoving Solutions; the motion was made, seconded and approved with a voice vote of "Aye." No dollar amount for the awarded contract was recorded on the public transcript during the motion.
Commission members also described a separate Chapin Road entrance paving request — an estimated 100 to 130 feet of skim coat or overlay — and requested assistance from the highway department. The board agreed to have staff and the highway crew measure and prepare a cost estimate to determine whether the work can be included in the existing 2026 construction schedule or must be deferred to 2027.
Staff said they would send the draft contract to the selected vendor and coordinate scheduling details with the commission and highway department. The board closed the cemetery commission item after directing administrative follow-up.
