Morristown council introduces three ordinances for May 12 hearing and adopts four ordinances plus two resolutions

The Morristown Town Council introduced three ordinances for public hearing on May 12 and adopted four ordinances and two resolutions during its regular meeting.
By title the council introduced Ordinance O-11-2026 (establishing compensation for certain town officers and employees), Ordinance O-12-2026 (amending fees and policies in Chapter 2) and Ordinance O-13-2026 (amending local code sections related to alcoholic, cannabis and hemp-derived beverages, public consumption and open containers). The council also opened separate public hearings and adopted the following ordinances after no public comments were offered: O-7-2026 (amending Chapter 7 traffic to assign a handicapped parking placard for a resident of 7 Henry Street), O-8-2026 (adding a dedicated handicap parking space for a resident of 189 Speedwell Avenue), O-9-2026 (amending Chapter 13, housing and property maintenance), and O-10-2026 (amending Chapter 12, building and construction). Each ordinance was adopted on a recorded voice vote with council members answering "yes" when called. (Clerk)
The council moved to adopt Resolutions R-90-20-26 and R-91-20-26 together; both were approved by voice vote. R-91-20-26 had been added to the agenda earlier in the meeting after an executive-session discussion and is described as authorizing implementing actions related to an amended fourth-round affordable housing structure. Mayor Doherty also urged support for NJ4S, a student mental-health prevention service, asking members and residents to sign postcards to help preserve the program's funding. No further action on NJ4S was taken at the meeting.
