Montville honors state champions, ShopRite Stars and eight retirees

The Montville Township Board of Education paused regular business to celebrate student achievements and to honor staff retirement milestones.
A resolution congratulated the Montville Township High School boys basketball team for winning the Blue Gold Winter Tournament, a division championship and a North 1, Group 3 sectional title; student Chris Ferrari and coaches spoke briefly and posed for a group photo with the board.
Administrators presented ShopRite Stars for the third marking period, recognizing students across categories: Rayanna Shemsudin (academics), Cole Riley (athletics), Anthony De Donato (arts), Victoria Gomes (community service) and Anisha Malinti (leadership). Several recognized students shared their plans for college and extracurricular achievements.
Superintendent Dr. Gorman read tributes to eight retirees, including longtime classroom and special‑education staff, custodial and maintenance employees, a head district nurse and the district’s educational technology coach, acknowledging decades of service and contributions to student learning.
The recognitions were followed by a short recess before the board moved into budget and policy business.
