AgriLife Extension reports modest rise in 4‑H/FFA projects, outreach and local programs

Representatives from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office presented their combined October–December report on Jan. 6. Extension agent Carrie Shishard said the office validated 54 heifers this fall, bringing the county heifer total to 135 across 4‑H and FFA programs, and reported 152 sheep and goats tagged. She said tag‑ins are up about 7% from last year.
Another Extension staff member (Sarah) described local programs including a six‑week "Growing and Nourishing Healthy Communities" gardening class and partnership events such as "stir and stitch." The office secured a $1,000 Walmart grant for holiday outreach and said it reached 21,939 people through Facebook, the local paper, an employee newsletter and monthly YouTube cooking videos.
The court thanked the Extension staff and then voted to accept the report as part of the consent items.
