District attorney seeks county match to continue misdemeanor family-violence program; court approves

Ashley Holman (speaker 11) of the district attorney's office asked the court to support a continuation application for a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant that would fund a misdemeanor family-violence prosecutor and an investigator.
Holman said the two-year grant project totals about $216,000 and requires a 30% in-kind match. She told the court the county's required match for year two would be $64,968.71 and that the awarded VAWA funds would provide approximately $151,593.66. Holman cited the DA's earlier, successful felony family-violence grant program as a model and said the misdemeanor project is an early-stage extension of that effort.
She said family-violence and assault remain among the county's most common crimes and asked the court to pass a resolution to apply and to provide the required match. Commissioners voted to approve the resolution and contribution by voice vote.
Next steps: the DA's office will submit the continuation application and, if awarded, the county will provide the agreed match to fund the prosecutor and investigator positions.
