Oregon School District board approves consent calendar, fills staff posts and hears program updates

The Oregon School District Board on Aug. 26, 2024, at the OSD Innovation Center approved its consent calendar, including payments totaling $106,024.94, formalized several staffing assignments and accepted a $140 donation from the Oregon Choral Boosters. Board President Krista Flanagan called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM; the consent calendar motion passed on a 5-0 roll call vote after Dr. Bush joined the meeting.
The consent calendar included the following staffing actions: Kailey Stevens was approved as a 1.0 FTE special education teacher at OMS; Richard Grossen was approved as a 1.0 FTE technical education teacher at OHS; Andrew Schwei was approved as a 1.0 FTE Spanish teacher at OHS; Terri Schmoldt’s contract was revised from 1.0 FTE Advanced Learning Teacher at FES to split .50 FTE as DW Advanced Learning Coordinator and .50 FTE as FES Advanced Learning Teacher; and Megan Konopacki’s contract was revised from .50 FTE Naturalist to .50 FTE Naturalist and .50 FTE Advanced Learning Teacher at FES. The Board recorded the consent calendar payment total as $106,024.94 and accepted a $140 donation to the choir program from the Oregon Choral Boosters.
Students and staff described a summer exchange program in Germany. Participants Hans Kiesau, Zachary Bizjak, Sophia Dyer, Olivia Olsen, Erin Krenke and Lia Wocheske and OHS German instructor Jolene Wochenske spoke about their travel and exchange experiences during a brief presentation to the Board.
In a Teaching and Learning update, Mr. Jon Tanner, Ms. Darci Jarstad and Dr. Candace Weidensee reviewed the district’s Learning & Student Achievement goals, discussed STAR Literacy state-level benchmarks, OHS ACT results and Spring START scores, and explained how the SAIL process is being used to pursue strategic goals. The team presented updated SAIL goals for 2024–25 and noted several data challenges that prompted questions from Board members.
Superintendent Dr. Leslie Bergstrom closed the substantive portion of the meeting with a Superintendent’s Report that included photos and updates about district schools and events; she directed members and the public to the full report on the district website at www.OregonSD.org/board.
Ms. Leslie Wright moved and Dr. Bush seconded a motion to adjourn, which passed 5-0. The meeting adjourned at 8:09 PM.
