The Berkeley City Council on May 7 certified the results of the District 7 special election, formally recording the outcome and seating newly elected Councilmember Cecilia Luna Parra.
The one-item special meeting lasted only minutes. The presiding officer moved adoption of the consent calendar, which included certification of the April 16, 2024 special election results, and the council took a roll-call vote. Councilmember Kisarwani was recorded absent; Councilmember Bartlett was recorded absent. Councilmembers Taplin, Hahn, Weingraff, Cecilia Luna Parra, Humbert and Mayor Arreguin voted yes, and the motion carried.
The certification completes the administrative step required to document the election outcome and allow the new councilmember to take her place on the dais. After the vote, the council offered brief welcoming remarks to Luna Parra, who had been introduced earlier in the meeting.
The meeting included no public comment on the consent item. After the vote the council moved to adjourn.
The special meeting was convened solely to consider the consent calendar item certifying the District 7 special election and adjourned once that item was approved.
