Peters Colony Memorial Park nears completion; Post Oak and Trotter projects move forward
Summary
Park development staff reported Peters Colony Memorial Park will likely be ready for a ribbon-cutting in mid-June; Post Oak Park is at the bidding stage with a May 12 deadline and Trotter Park design is complete and expected to go to bid in late May.
John Haber, park development staff, briefed the CDC on multiple park projects at the April 28 meeting.
Haber said Peters Colony Memorial Park is in the final stages—lighting, benches and landscaping are installed—and staff expect construction to wrap up in early to mid-June for a planned ribbon-cutting. Colony Park work has progressed into construction after removing an old, deteriorated basketball court; staff will replace the court, upgrade trails for ADA compliance and repair parking areas.
Post Oak Park is at the public-bid stage with a May 12 deadline; if bids are favorable, staff anticipate selecting a contractor in May or June and completing the project in roughly March–April 2027. Trotter Park has reached 100% design, and staff expect to go to bid in late May for a larger renovation that includes pickleball/tennis courts, a restroom, a large playground and jogging-track connections to nearby neighborhoods.
Haber also described Amy Lane Pond as silted and lacking an original clay liner; core sampling led staff to request design proposals and cost estimates because the needed regrading, liner installation and outfall repairs may exceed current budgeted amounts. Haber said staff will return with cost estimates before seeking funding for full construction.
Staff emphasized scheduling dependencies: some work will wait for school to be out (Forest Vista trail) and other projects are paced to align with bond and 4B funding and staffing capacity. The board had no public comments on these items during the hearing; staff will return with bids and cost estimates as projects proceed.
