The court also proclaimed February 17 as World Read Aloud Day and marked expansion of the Hidalgo County Library System from 13 to 14 libraries. Library representatives and local directors thanked commissioners for the recognition.
Finally, the court declared February 2026 Spay and Neuter Awareness Month and heard from student-led veterinary teams and partners. Rebecca Chavez and Aliana Rodriguez said demand is high: "For our upcoming clinic this weekend, over 700 families have applied for assistance," one speaker told the court, underscoring community need and the role of student clinics in expanding access.
What happens next: Proclamations are ceremonial but often accompany county support for community events and outreach; partners said clinics and Engineers Week activities are planned in coordination with schools and UTRGV.
