Poudre School District board adopts resolutions for Mental Health Awareness and Military Appreciation

The Poudre School District R-1 Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to approve two ceremonial resolutions: one recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month and another supporting Military Appreciation Month.

Sarah Mauder Wilkins, the district’s mental health and prevention coordinator, presented the mental‑health resolution and introduced a parent, identified in public comment as Analisa, who described her son’s crisis last October and credited school counselors and a student report to Safe2Tell and a 988 call with saving his life. “There is no doubt in my mind that those two women saved my son’s life,” the parent said, urging continued investment in school‑based mental‑health supports. Board members thanked the parent and praised district staff for early identification and intervention.

Separately, the board heard from Garrison Ware, cadet battalion commander of the Poudre High School JROTC, and a military guest, Captain Roby, in support of a resolution honoring Military Appreciation Month. Ware described the tradition of service and called for community acts of service to honor veterans and service members. Board members commended the remarks and the board approved the resolution.

Both resolutions passed on unanimous votes. The actions are ceremonial recognitions; no new funding or policy changes were enacted as part of the motions.

The board’s next regular meeting will continue its scheduled agenda, including follow‑up items related to district programs and budget planning.
