Hidalgo County court approves $2.2M in vehicle equipment purchases, multiple contracts and work authorizations

Purchasing department representative Ignacio Mescu summarized the request and told the court staff recommended approval; the motion passed on a voice vote.
County leaders also approved work authorization No. 11 with Jacobs Project Management Services to continue program and construction management for the new Hidalgo County Courthouse project and granted the purchasing department authority to negotiate multiple professional engineering and materials-testing contracts under the Urban County program for projects in La Jolla, Sullivan City and other jurisdictions.
Other procurement approvals included authorization to declare surplus heavy equipment and purchase replacements through cooperative purchasing memberships, HVAC improvements for the District Attorney’s annex, and purchases related to a juvenile mental‑health facility. In each case the court recorded motions, a second and unanimous voice approval.
Judge Richard Cortez presided over the meeting; when staff presented the vehicle‑equipment item, Mescu told commissioners “staff recommended approval” before the court voted. No individual roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript beyond the customary “All in favor, say aye.”
What’s next: Contracts and purchase agreements approved Thursday are subject to final legal review where noted, and county staff will return with negotiated agreements or procurement documents as required by policy.
