Hidalgo County commissioners approve wide-ranging contracts, funding and appointments

Hidalgo County’s Commissioners Court approved a series of routine and programmatic actions at its Jan. 12 meeting, voting to award multiple construction and service contracts, accept grant funding and make appointments following a closed session.
The court carried the consent agenda and individually approved interlocal agreements and contract awards across departments. Among the motions the court approved were engineering and construction testing contracts for drainage and road projects; work positions and service agreements for PD Lateral and Bonner River projects; a one-year maintenance and support renewal for Odyssey software; and Head Start purchases including play structures and passenger vans. Several commissioners were recorded as abstaining from specific items when conflicts were noted.
In post‑closed-session action the court accepted the resignation of Roy Rodriguez from the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority and appointed Nick Rhodes to fill the vacancy. The court also approved a variety of grant applications and authorizations, including several District Attorney grant applications designating the county judge as the authorized official for grant documents.
The meeting included routine budget and personnel items such as creation of a GIS operator classification and a budget amendment to fund the new position. The court approved multiple museum funding agreements totaling $490,000 distributed across the Museum of South Texas History and several local museums.
The court set its next regular session for Jan. 20 and adjourned.
