Hidalgo County's elections office briefed commissioners on preparations for the March 3, 2026 joint primary and the court approved the required joint-primary contracts with local party chairs.
"Early voting begins Tuesday, February 17, and will run through Friday, February 27," said Hilda Salinas, the county elections administrator, adding that most polling locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (an exception was noted for Sunday, Feb. 22). Salinas also said the last day to register or update registration is Monday, Feb. 2.
The court approved a joint resolution and contracts that authorize the county election officer to administer the joint primary and delegated signing authority to County Judge Richard Cortez to execute related documents if needed. Party chairs for both local parties were named in the resolution as part of the joint contract structure.
Why it matters: the action formalizes operations and timelines for early voting and the joint primary and gives the elections office authority to proceed with staffing and polling location logistics.
What’s next: Elections staff will proceed with preparations and public outreach on registration deadlines, early voting locations and hours.
