Butte County 457 plan grows to $93.5 million; rollovers set a local record

Butte County's 457 Deferred Compensation Plan ended 2025 with a reported balance of $93,496,385, up from a beginning balance of $82,111,632 on Jan. 1, 2025, according to Nationwide's Fourth Quarter (Annual) Plan Health Dashboard presented to the committee Feb. 5.
Nationwide reported 1,428 participants with balances and 878 actively contributing; 467 participants are using Roth accounts with total Roth balances of $5,827,447. The report also noted $1,814,180 in rollovers into the plan during 2025, which the minutes describe as the most rollovers to date for Butte County.
Loan activity was summarized: 104 active loans (96 general purpose, eight primary-residence loans), 33 loan defaults in the plan's historical records, total loan balances of $886,234 and a default loan total of $163,659; 23 of those in default remain employed by Butte County. The minutes emphasize that the data are accurate as of the date last information was received by Nationwide and that some records may lag.
Julius McCormick (Nationwide retirement specialist) reported that new-hire orientation and on-site and virtual meetings continue, and that targeted outreach to nonparticipants produced some new enrollments; he said Nationwide will include Chico in quarterly visits going forward.
The report and the provider's outreach updates provide a snapshot of participation, loan exposure and recent net inflows for the county 457 plan; the committee accepted the report as part of the meeting record.
