The Grayson County Commissioners Court on Feb. 24 approved a request from Heart of a Matter Ministries to place a veterans memorial bench on the courthouse lawn during the ministry's May 2 community impact event.
Tina Gardner of Heart of a Matter Ministries told the court the bench would be installed on the courthouse grounds as part of the eighth annual community event. "We would like to get a memorial bench approved to be placed on the courthouse lawn for our eighth annual community impact event," Gardner said. The item included a photo in the meeting attachments, and commissioners said they appreciated that there was no cost to the county and that staff would coordinate site placement with county staff named Greg.
Scott Cox of Cox Custom Services was identified during the discussion as the contractor associated with the bench. Commissioners approved the request by voice vote with no conditions noted during the public motion.
The court treated the request as a permitted use of county grounds for a temporary memorial tied to a community event; the bench will be installed and sited in coordination with county staff ahead of the May event.
