The Grayson County Commissioner’s Court on March 10 approved a request to use the courthouse grounds for a “No Kings” rally planned for March 28, 2026, after hearing from an event representative and county officials about security and facility access.
Nan Campbell, who identified herself as representing Barb Rush and the event, asked the court to allow use of the grounds and to have restrooms available for the short, peaceful gathering. "We're willing to pay any fees associated," Campbell said, noting attendees are typically senior citizens and some children and that ADA access may be needed.
The sheriff raised security concerns about opening interior courthouse restrooms outside normal operating procedures, saying the current nationwide threat environment requires caution and recommending the organizers consider renting porta-potties for the adjacent parking lot. Several commissioners acknowledged precedent concerns about opening restrooms for outside events but also noted the courthouse would already be open part of that day for another event, which affected the court’s practical decision.
After discussion, the court moved and approved allowing the use of the courthouse grounds. Commissioners said restroom access would be available for this instance but cautioned they do not want to create an expectation that restrooms will automatically be opened for all future outside events. The organizers reiterated their willingness to pay any monitoring fees.
No formal conditions beyond standard facilities fees and monitoring were recorded; county staff and the organizers were left to coordinate logistics and any fees.
