County to transfer surplus radios to volunteer fire departments to enable digital transition

A county staff member described the plan: the sheriff's office donated older radios that will be distributed to volunteer departments the county dispatches for; once law enforcement completes its new radio installs and fully migrates off the old system, the plan is to move fire-department channels to digital. The staff member noted, "Right now, they're on 7800 with a patch to the old SO digital, but they're gonna eventually move..." and described the transfer as a way to improve radio communications across the county.
Commissioner Wright moved and Commissioner Hardenberg seconded the motion to approve the surplus transfer; the court approved the motion by voice vote. County staff said the transfers will be coordinated with volunteer departments and the sheriff's office to schedule installs and channel changes.
