Court adopts resolutions honoring Judge John Lindsay, Black History Month, community groups and local retirees

During its Feb. 12 session the Harris County Commissioners Court adopted multiple honorary resolutions and proclamations, including a formal memorial honoring the late John Lindsay for his long service as County Judge, a proclamation designating February 2026 as Black History Month, recognitions of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (the "Divine 9") and a local spay-and-neuter awareness resolution.
The court also paused to honor longtime county employees and retirees, including a 30-year recognition for Carlos Lopez, a precinct 2 food-service driver and recent retiree who has delivered meals to seniors for three decades, and a memorial resolution recognizing the life and community contributions of Corey Dwayne Gorka, a road-operations foreman whose family and coworkers addressed the court.
Speakers from community organizations and members of the honored families addressed the court and received the symbolic resolutions. Commissioners and guests noted the local historical context and the contributions of civic leaders, community service groups, and county staff.
