Assessor briefs commission on special-assessment nuisance roll and appeals process

Post said the commission issued an order on Jan. 27 directing the assessor to create a roll for unpaid service charges and code violations (housing violations, yard violations, rental certifications and blight monitoring) covering July through December 2025. Notices with appeal instructions were mailed March 16; the roll has been open for public inspection online and in the assessor’s office since March 30. To date the assessor’s office had received 15 written appeals, and Post said the commission was convening as the Board of Review for final appeals that night; she offered to be available after the meeting for any residents who wished to file an appeal in person.
No members of the public came forward to appeal that item at the hearing; the commission closed the hearing.
