Wheeling manager: wastewater sludge removal about 30% complete; digesters expected back in service this summer

City Manager Harron updated the Wheeling City Council on sludge removal work at the city’s wastewater treatment plant on March 3, saying the project is approximately 30% complete and that digesters will likely be put back in service this summer.
"Sludge removal at the wastewater treatment plant, thankfully, has begun. It's about 30% complete," Harron said. He described the work as addressing an odor problem that has affected the plant for about a year and said numerous valves must be replaced and the digesters will be brought back online, probably sometime this summer.
Harron also reported that contractors LaRoche Tree Service completed a tree removal project at Heritage Port and that a management plan is being developed to prevent regrowth. Council did not take any further action on the wastewater item during the meeting; the manager presented the update as part of his routine report.
